Olen viettänyt täällä jo yli puolet ajastani. Viikko
Iringassa antoi hyvän täydennyksen Tansania-kuvaani. Iringa on noin kahdeksan
tunnin matkan päässä Dar Es Salaamista länteen. Koska siellä on jonkin verran
työssäkäyviä valkoihoisia, heihin suhtaudutaan ystävällisemmin kuin
turistikaupungissa Arushassa. Pystyin käymään yksin lenkillä ja kävelemään
kaupungilla. Olo oli oikein viihtyisä ja seura erinomaista.
Ruokailimme usein paikallisten suomalaisten kanssa,
joukossa oli myös opettajia eri puolilta maailmaa. Teimme sunnuntaina
kiipeiluretken läheiselle pienelle vuorelle, jossa oli jonkinlainen kirkon
tekele.
rauhallista tahtia. Pojat seurasivat. He olivat nähneet kameramme ja vaativat
saada ottaa kuvaa ja antamaan rahaa. Eräs yritti jopa avata viimeisenä kulkevan
reppuakin.
Tosin taisin saada pienen
flunssanpoikasen ilmstoinnin seurauksena. Matkalla kuljimme luonnonpuistoalueen
läpi ja näimme tien vierellä antilooppeja, paviaaneja ja kirahveja. Aikoessani
ottaa kuvia, Johanna sanoi, ettei kannata, koska olimme kuitenkin menossa uuden
vuoden safarille N’Morongoroon, jossa olisi kunnollinen mahdollisuus kuvata
eläimiä.
Pääsin hyvissä ajoin Passionist Fater –nimiseen,
katoliseen hostelliin, majapaikkaan, jota suomalaiset suosivat sen
edullisuuden, siisteyden ja ystävällisyyden takia. Ehdin päivittää Projektiin
liittyvät ajatukset, ennen kun tuttu taksikuski Frank tuli hakemaan minua
lentokentälle Suomesta tulevaa ystävääni Leenaa vastaan. Ehdimme seuravan
tuloa.
Frank tuli hakemaan meitä aamulla 5.20 viedäkseen meidät Lauttaterminaaliin. Olin
varannut meille paikat. Kun pääsimme terminaaliin, virallisen näköiset,
henkilökorttiakin innokkaasti vilauttelevat ”matkatavaratyöntekijät” yrittivät
saada lennosta matkalaukkumme hoitaakseen. Onneksi Frank sanoi napakasti, että
me hoidamme itse tavaramme, auttoi meidät näiden falskien huijareitten kynsistä
terminaaliin. Laivalle mennessämme nämä ”apupojat” yrittivät vielä viedä
laukkujamme, mutta olimme varpaillamme ja saimme tavarat turvallisesti
Sansibarille. Siellä olin myös varannut etukäteiskuljetuksen Mbuyuni Beach
Villageen. Meitä tullut hakija hätisteli myös ylimääräiset ”apupojat” napakasti
pois ja pääsimme turvallisesti ihanaan majapaikkaamme. Tämän majapaikan oli
varannut Ulla-Maijan antaman vinkin
perusteella. Voiko olla upeampaa paikkaa viettää joulua ystävän täällä ollessa
valkoisten hiekkarantojen äärellä turkoosista Intian valtamerestä nauttien. Rauhallista
ja rentouttavaa joulua kaikille!
In English:
I have been seven weeks of my twelve weeks here in
Tanzania. The visiting in Iringa gave me bigger picture of this Country. The
City with more working white People was friendlier than Arusha, where most of the
white People are tourists. It was easy to move in Iringa, I could walk in the
city only myself. I felt me very comfortable and of course I had also nice
companies there.
We went many times to eat dinner with Johanna’s
Friends. Most of the Dinner Companies worked in a Finnish Project, but some of
them came from different part of World, too. On Sunday we climbed to the
Mountain near Iringa. We climbed quite a good pace on the path, but of course
we stopped some times to take the pictures and respite. But when we at last got
there up, there were about ten young boys that have sticks in their hands.
Johanna, who can speak Swahili heard some of them asking a other boy: - Do you
want to hit? We understood we have to begin the return trip down the Mountain.
But the Boys were following us and some of them tried to take something from
Sanna’s Backpack. And they began to ask we take to picture and give to them
Money. Some of them threw some stones on us, but the Boss of them denied do
that so they stopped it. It was the first time in Iringa Johanna and her friend
had felt this kind of threatening situation. They said Iringa is quite safe
City but the last times it has been more hate Speech about the outsiders even
in there. The Trip to the Mountain was done in record time and we had to get
some fresh drinks after the climbing.
In my being in Iringa we got the good News from
Finnish State Department. The Arusha Hear –Projectet had got the Funding
application to the next three Years. We all were so happy, now it’s possible to
continue the work we have already started! I had many good Discussions with
Johanna about the Tanzanian School system and working with teachers and pupils
with different kind of special Needs. It was so wonderful to share our
experiences, feelings and Ideas with the Person who has the same kind of
thinking.
On Wednesday I and Johanna could join to the team of
Finnish Field Study that was starting to Journey back to Dar Es Salaam and
quite soon to Finland, too. It was nice to travel by taxi with air condition
although I caught the cold because of the Air Condition on the Journey. On the
Road we travelled through the National Park and it was amazing to see Baboons,
Antelopes and Giraffes just in beside the Way we drove!
I had a good time in my hostel in Passionist Father.
It’s Place many Finnish people are staying during their visiting in Dar Es
Salaam because of the atmosphere of kindness. The Place is also clean and
cheap. I had time to do some dates of the Project before the well-known Taxi
Driver Frank came and pick up me. He transported me to pick up my Friend,
Leena, who arrived to Tanzania. The next Day we had time to shop in Uhuru-
Street and the Shopping Center of Slipway by the help of friendly Frank.
On Friday Frank came to pick up us at 5.20 and
transported us to the Ferry Terminal. We travelled by Ferry to Zanzibar. I had
booked also the taxi Driver to Zanzibar who drove us to Mbuyuni Beach Village.
It was good because these Taxi Drivers helped us to manage “the Lying
Authorities” that tried to show their Id-cards to get us to trust to them. But
we knew to avoid them on the rest of our Journey. We came to Mbuyuni Beach
Village that I chose in Recommendation of Ulla-Maija. I think it can’t be the more wonderful Place
to celebrate Christmas with the good company of my Finnish Friend. There are
Beaches of so fine and white sand and the green-blue colored Indian Ocean in
over the Sun of Zanzibar. I wish Merry Christmas for everybody!
